Today is the day you can raise the national recycling rate. Currently, the recycling rate is 34.7%. With your help, make the pledge to increase the recycling rate. Don’t forget, paper & plastic are not the only material you can recycle. You can also compost, nature’s process of recycling organic material!
We are taking the pledge by partnering up with the County of San Diego and joining 243 students and 10 teachers to celebrate America Recycles Day at Boulder Oaks Elementary School in Alpine, CA. We are showing students that plastic and paper are not the only recyclable material by recycling organic waste from their cafeteria and their lunch pails.
According to America Recycles, the average American produces 4.4 pounds of trash a day, and on the whole the United States produces over 250 million tons of trash a year.
For America Recycles Day 2013:
Learn. I will find out what materials are collected for recycling in my community and where local America Recycles Day events are being held at: AmericaRecyclesDay.org.
Act. Reduce my personal waste by recycling. Within the next month, I will recycle more.
Share. In the next month, I will encourage one family member or one friend to take the pledge.
Give your garbage another life. Join us in recycling by sharing your stories and inspiring everyone to recycle.
